When a bespoke solution is required, EMR adopt a project approach to recruitment. Typically this is utilised when multiple hiring is required in a marketing department; perhaps due to a restructure, a change programme, new business plans, a rebrand or product launch, company mergers and acquisitions, poor employer branding, succession planning or unexpected departures.
Whatever the reason, EMR is skilled at carefully assessing the situation and producing a bespoke solution to meet your hiring needs. A dedicated member of the senior management team will pull together all our resources and experience to produce a project plan and appoint an account team that will act as an extension of your own HR department.
Projects will be an integrated approach using a range of resourcing techniques such as trade press adverting; national press advertising; online advertising; social media and professional networking; microsites; marketing mapping; head hunting; direct marketing and of course fully utilising our existing network of global contacts.
With our in-house recruitment marketing team and extensive media buying power, we are uniquely positioned to produce an end-to-end project plan which is the most cost-effective solution. Utilising this service also gives our clients reassurance that we have full accountability for successful delivery; something that direct recruitment advertising or a multiple agency approach can never offer.
The nature of these projects vary greatly, so below are a small selection of case studies:
National Savings & Investments
EMR successfully tendered to handle a large multiple assignment project with National Savings. Under the leadership of Alan Cook (now MD of Post Office and on the board of Royal Mail), National Savings embarked on a huge change programme. A significant aspect of this was to enhance their marketing and sales strategy with new products, fresh branding, better CRM and customer communications along with online development and new partnerships. This resulted in over 30 new positions across the sales and marketing department.
At that point in time, National Savings was not a strong employer brand within financial services coupled with the additional limitation of capped salaries as a government agency. Direct advertising had not yielded results and they had growing frustrations using multiple recruiters on a success only basis.
EMR was engaged to manage all their sales and marketing hiring on a retained project basis and handle all their marketing recruitment advertising.
Our Consultants were entrenched with HR and the marketing department. More critically, we understood the vision of the strategy, shared their passion and enjoyed selling the opportunity it presented to marketing professionals.
Fundamentally, this came down to selling NS&I and every vacant position over the telephone. Addressing every incorrect preconception, objection and educating the best candidates that fitted the brief.
In addition to the sell, what cannot be underestimated is the pre-emptive offer management as they were competing to attract marketing professionals from other retail banks and blue chip brands.
EMR had a 100% completion rate on every assignment handled for NS&I.
This could not have been achieved through any other method than applying a project focus with a single recruitment specialist.
We are proud of being a key agent in the success of NS&I’s change project. An employer brand today which is recognised as a great company with a fresh brand, an excellent product range, significantly improved CRM and even having Lord Alan Sugar on their new TV advertising.

News International
EMR has recruited marketing talent across the News Corporation for many years. Following the appointment of a new CMO at News International, the marketing department went through a restructure which resulted in numerous new positions arising over a six month period.
HR adopted a preferred supplier approach for which EMR successfully tendered and successfully appointed over 16 marketing professionals within this period.
This is what the Recruitment Manager has to say:
“From my experiences, I believe that to be a success in the recruitment industry you must treat clients and candidates with equal importance; know your market; have good interpersonal and communication skills; be honest; listen; be able to work to deadlines and targets; be willing to go that extra mile and have a good sense of humour. EMR has provided a very supportive and consultative relationship for me during this slow recruitment period that we are currently facing due to the credit crunch. They have been using this time to get to know News International better so that when there are more requirements, they will be able to deliver quickly and efficiently. It’s obvious from the service that EMR provides, that they have seen both bad and good times. This is just one of the factors which determined my decision to use EMR as a preferred supplier. In essence, a good recruitment consultancy should speed up the process of getting a new person on board, save you time, save you money and make sure that the candidate is motivated when they start their new job. As with any other sector, some recruitment consultants are better than others. Despite a relatively new relationship with EMR, I can honestly say that they tick all of the boxes above and I consider them to be one of the very best recruitment consultancies that I have used in my career to date.”

NCP
NCP is the largest operator of off-street and airport car parking facilities with over 700 car parks in 90 cities, towns and airports. The challenge was to change perceptions about a long-established brand that is already instantly recognisable, and about which most people have a view.
EMR was engaged to help build a new marketing team that would transform the brand and take it to market through multiple new channels. Following a comprehensive briefing with the Interim Marketing Director, EMR scoped out a bespoke retained project to fulfil these objectives:
- Building a best-in-class marketing department
- Ensuring NCP was a fresh and attractive employer brand
- Educating candidates to look beyond “car parks”
- Not box-filling, but hiring marketing professionals with key skills and a strong cultural fit
EMR successfully placed all these new positions in line with tight project timescales.

Ricoh retained EMR to deliver an end-to-end hiring project.
